Awesome.  I've always wanted to get some work done there, I think that'll be neat.

Cool!  Let me know how it turns out.  By the way, where are you getting it on your body?

It depends on the colors involved.  But I wouldn't pay more than $50.

thanks for the pointers!  having a unique tattoo isn't very important to me, since it's just a plain old 5-pointed star, but the rest of it i'll take into account.  How much do you think a small, less-than-an-inch-in-diameter star would cost?

Well (ahem), I guess I will speak as the forum tattoo expert on this topic.  First of all, you should talk to people you know who have tattoos, especially good tattoos that you like to see where they got them.  When I was in Albany and was asking around, you had a list of a few that seemed reputable.  So that's important.  Second, check out their website and their shop to see what other kinds of work they do.  Do they do flash?  Are they all original?  My tattoo place only does originals, which was important to me because I knew that no one else was walking around the area with my exact tattoo.  Then you talk to the artists about what you want to get to see which one's style will fit you best, and then negotiate price and all that.  Hope this helps.  If you have any other questions, let me know.  On a sad note, it's been over a year since I've had my last one. ;(  I hate being broke.

Hey everyone (particularly Casey)--
I'm getting a tattoo in the near future, just curious how to know whether a place is a good place to get one or not... how do you choose where to get it done?  I have everything else figured out except that.  I've been reading web sites about it but thought I'd ask my experts... phone a friend so to speak.
